We are going to be spending the year completing a new topic – Ethics. Ethics explores what is considered right and wrong, or good and bad. We are going to be looking at some different ethical issues to decide if they are good or bad.
Animals are used by humans for a variety of different things.
Task 1: Create a mindmap/list of what animals are used for (e.g for food)
Task 2: Do you consider animals and humans to be equal or not? Why? Should animals have rights?
According to the RSPCA, ‘The use of animals to test cosmetics products or their ingredients is banned in the UK and all other member states of the European Union. Since March 2013, it has also been illegal to sell cosmetics products within the EU which have been, or which contain ingredients, newly tested on animals.’
The UK allows animals to be used for scientific research towards new treatments and understanding the way that the body works in greater detail. If you would like to read more about this click here.
