Shinto is a belief that originates in Japan. Shintoists believe in kamis, which are spirits which exist in many things, including plants and animals. The word “Shinto” comes from the Japanese words “神”, shin—the word for god, and “道”, tō—the word for “the way” or “path”. So, Shinto means “the way of the gods.”
Task 1: Read here and answer the following questions.

- Name two Shinto festivals.
- What is the festival on the 15th November for?
- When did the government make Shinto the main religion of Japan?
